Jason Hollett
Acting Director, Climate Change
Jason began working in the Climate Change Directorate in 2006 while the file still resided at the Department of Energy. He had previously spent two years at a Southwest Shore non-governmental organization helping communities and businesses address climate change issues and opportunities. Jason took time away from climate change to coordinate the ecoNova Scotia for Clean Air and Climate Change fund. He rejoined the directorate in 2008 at Nova Scotia Environment.
Jason has a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary's University, and a Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University.
Jason and his family reduce their carbon footprint by choosing to live close to their work and school to avoid using their vehicle.

Jonah Bernstein
Senior Policy Advisor
Jonah has been interested in climate change and sustainable energy issues since he first learned to windsurf as a little kid. He has been working on the climate change and energy file for the provincial government since 2004, and has also worked on sustainability issues for the federal government and non-profit sector. Jonah is from outside of Nova Scotia but now makes Nova Scotia and its beautiful environment his home.
Jonah has a Master’s degree in business from Dalhousie University and an undergraduate degree in economics, ecology, and geography from McGill University.
Jonah walks to work everyday, tries to eat only the freshest local foods, and has board meetings as much as possible in the open air and surf around Cow Bay.

John Odenthal
Senior Economic Advisor
John became interested in environment and climate change issues when he helped organize Earth Day events as a kid. John has worked in independent research (NGOs) and within government departments (Energy, Economic Development) since moving to Nova Scotia in 1990.
With an undergraduate degree in economics and political science, and a combined MBA/ MPA degree from Boston University, John is also working with other departments to develop new ways to measure and monitor sustainable progress in Nova Scotia.
John saves energy by continuing to retrofit his home, consume less, and walk more.
He is an active volunteer in local sustainability projects.

Will Green
Adaptation Specialist
Will joined the Climate Change Directorate in 2008. Will's interest in climate change adaptation stems from a decade working in environmental planning and research. Will has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Resource Management from Southern Cross University and Science Honours from the University of Sydney, Australia.
To reduce his carbon footprint, Will built an energy efficient home, buys or grows his own local produce and rides a bicycle.

Kyla Milne
Adaptation Specialist
Kyla Milne joined the Climate Change Directorate in 2006, after working as a research assistant with GPI Atlantic. Her interests and background are in sustainable development, ecological economics, risk management and resilience theory. She has a masters degree in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics and an undergraduate degree in International Development from Dalhousie University.
To reduce her carbon footprint, Kyla walks or bikes to work, maintains a vegetable garden, works to reduce her overall consumption and make her home more energy efficient.

Michelle Miller
Policy Analyst
Michelle joined the Climate Change Directorate in 2009. She first became interested in climate change while educating and promoting environmentally sustainable practices to producers as the coordinator of both the Agri-Conservation Club and Environmental Farm Plan Program. This interest led to her postgraduate research which studied nitrous oxide emissions in agricultural soils.
Michelle has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Nova Scotia Agricultural College and a Ph.D. from University of Guelph.
To reduce her carbon footprint, Michelle built an energy efficient new home, buys local food, recycles and composts, and carpools to work.

Mureena Hebert
Administrative Assistant
Mureena has worked for the Department of Energy for over 10 years, and recently became the Administrative Assistant for the Climate Change Directorate when they made their move to Nova Scotia Environment.
Mureena turns off the engine of her vehicle to avoid unnecessary idling.
